Devlog #23 - Licences and Milestones

It’s been a long time, and a lot has happened to me since I’ve been gone. I got married, had a baby and moved states again. All the while I’ve still been working very hard on Dinkum. I thought it might be time to start posting updates on here again, so I want to show you some of the ways you can progress your character through Dinkum!

While the player goes about their day in Dinkum, they will gain XP by doing various tasks. This XP stacks up at the end of the day and the player will level up in specific task categories, such as mining, fishing, logging, etc. When a player levels up, they will use less energy doing that task (as well as sometimes learning some new recipes). Oh, and they will also unlock Licences.

You will need certain licences to buy special tools and to learn some crafting recipes. Fletch knows all about licences and can give them out in exchange for “Permit Points”. Luckily, the player has a journal filled with milestones. When these milestones are passed, the player will earn permit points that can be spent on Licences. (And some other things, but don’t worry about that for now).

Now, most of these milestones you will discover on your own, just by going about your day. But some are a little harder to find…

By exploring the island and trying out all the activities available you will definitely get enough Permit Points to buy the next licence you want. Want to chop a tree? A logging licence is what you want. Want to build a boat? You’re going to want a Vehicle Licence. Want to enter the Deep Mine? There’s a licence for that too.

There are a bunch of licences available, but it’s up to you what order you want to get them, or if you need them at all.

Maybe you’re playing with a friend who already has a logging licence. You can get them to slip you some axes under the table. Ilegal axes.

Thanks for reading this blog post, I’m going to get back to working on the game. Hopefully, there will be some more news soon!
